the kindest words my father said to me
women like you drown oceans
- rupi kaur
This is a photograph of the biggest haystack you’ll probably see in your entire life. As a Seventh-day Adventist, I suppose that’s pretty exciting! So much chips, lettuce, beans, cheese, and salsa piled on top of each other… I can’t wait to get there and take a bite… oh, wait. It’s… it’s not actually a food haystack? It’s just called Haystack Rock? What, was it named by an Adventist who’d never seen an actual haystack out of hay before?
These thoughts and many more were racing through my head (not really) as I made my way to the Oregon coast for the first time ever! In fact, I had never even seen the ocean in my entire life before I took this photograph (yes, really).
It was possibly one of the most exciting moments in my life, and when I got to the beach itself, I ran like mad to put my bare toes into the warm, rough sand, and ran even faster to fling myself into those oh-so-cold ocean waves.
It was an experience I’ll never forget, seeing the endless edge of the ocean rising up before the road as we descended onto the beach plateau, and seeing Haystack Rock standing proud and monstrous on the horizon.
